Because in previous projects solar energy was only used for the hot-water production (because of highest offer in summertime) we looked further for possible alternative solutions for the room heating part.

For the project Nest Vercammenstraat in Herenthout we developed a proposal in which the solar collector was combined with a small combined heat and power installation (mini-WKK).

This project received the Electrabel award for “Solar house 1997-1998”.

The whole has been integrated as demonstration project in an educational promenade walk on sustainable living realised as part of the ”Green Valley Kempen” project.

It concerns 19 newly built dwellings in Herenthout (Nest Vercammenstraat), divided over 2 residential blocks of 12 and 7 dwellings.
