This project is a SynPack project. SynPack is the acronym for Synergy Package Approach, a method demonstrated in four innovative retrofit projects in four European countries. This method aims to develop retrofit concepts realising economically viable energy saving potentials of up to 70 %. The advantage of this approach is the comparison of synergies resulting from different sensible combinations of energy saving measures and use of renewable energies. The European SynPack project demonstrates the strengths of this approach by the future oriented retrofitting of existing settlements in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. The project was carried out in the 5th Framework Program of the EU. In the Belgian project, in Vorselaar, five apartment blocks of the social housing association Zonnige Kempen with eleven dwellings each were renovated. The blocks were built in 1971 and in each block two apartments were added under the roof in 1992.The inhabitants have been involved from the start. Three years before the renovation, they have been consulted. After the renovation, there has been an evaluation of the whole process.
